The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the 2024 board examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 students are scheduled to take place in February-March. However, in recognition of the commitments of students who are actively participating in national or international sports events, as well as international Olympiads, and who may face scheduling conflicts with the CBSE exams, the board has made provisions for special exams to be conducted at a later date.

In an official statement released by the CBSE, it was revealed that the board is keen on fostering a balance between academic pursuits and a commitment to sports and other educational competitions among young individuals. To facilitate this, CBSE will offer the option of special exams for those students whose CBSE board exam dates coincide with the dates of their national and international sporting events, as well as the dates of travel for these events in the year 2024.

It is important to note that these sports events should hold recognition from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), while the Olympiads should be recognized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).

It should be emphasized that this special examination opportunity will not be extended to compartment exams or practical exams.

To avail of this provision, schools must submit applications to their respective regional offices by December 31. These applications should include recommendations from the Sports Authority of India and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. Additionally, a certificate of participation from the relevant organizations’ nodal officers will be required to validate the students’ participation in the said sports events and Olympiads.
