The Ministry of Education has issued an order to overhaul the board structure and administrative framework of the JEE Apex Board (JAB), responsible for conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for undergraduate engineering program admissions in IITs, NITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).

According to the notification, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will oversee all information technology-related (software) support and back-end activities, encompassing online application form submissions before and after the examination. The official notice also mentions that NTA may collaborate with NIC/C-DAC as needed.

Professor SK Jain, the Vice-Chancellor of BHU, has been appointed as the Chairperson of JAB. The board comprises Directors from IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, NIT Rourkela, NIT Surathkal, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT (PPP) Lucknow, IIITM Gwalior, representatives from state governments of Madhya Pradesh, Assam/Manipur, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab Engineering College, the Chairman of CBSE, Director General of NIC, NTA, C-DAC, and the Additional Secretary/Joint Secretary (TE) of the Ministry of Education as members.

The JAB will establish a permanent secretariat, which will be provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The JAB will be supported by the JEE Interface Group, consisting of five members selected from NTA, IITs, and a senior representative from the Indian Statistical Institutes (ISI) nominated by the Joint Apex Board, as specified in the Ministry of Education’s official notification.

NTA will offer administrative and logistical assistance for the nationwide conduct of JEE (Main). The permanent secretariat of the JAB, situated within NTA, will utilize the existing infrastructure and available financial resources accumulated since the establishment of the initial JAB. Additional positions, such as the Executive Director, will be created as required, based on Cabinet/CEE approval and actual needs, with manpower contributions from the current JEE (Main) unit.
